Sixteenth-Century Italian Replica Globe Bar Reviews
28 of 30 people found the following review helpful Looks good from far away but up close . . ., January 5, 2011 By Morgan Hoke (Chicago, IL) - See all my reviews Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Sixteenth-Century Italian Replica Globe Bar I bought this item for my boyfriend who loved the idea of a globe bar. I did too, until it got here. I mean the thing looks fine from far away. It was easy enough to put together and functions well but when you look at it closely the sections (I mean the vertical paper strips that they put down to create the map) do not line up. You can't read half of the text on the globe because it overlaps leaving out letters, there is major color variation from strip to strip, and the continents jump all over the place (I am missing the tip of Florida which now ends in a blunt straight line, one half of Cuba is green the other yellow due to different color schemes on the strips, these are just two of the many issues). Also I found the paper peeling in places. If you are a stickler for geography or just want a decent, well put together product, try going with a different brand or a slightly pricier version. The quality of this piece is poor when you look closely.
7 of 7 people found the following review helpful Cool product for the price, January 20, 2011 Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Sixteenth-Century Italian Replica Globe Bar Arrived 2 days early. Easy to assemble with a flat head screw driver and half inch wrench, or adjustable wrench, for the hinge nuts. Peices lined up fine. Rolls fine, even with the bottles and glasses in the thing. There are a few parts of the globe where the paper strips cut out some words and coastlines, but only if you look closely at it... I didn't even notice until after reading another review and then relooked at Florida and the text in the ocean. Other than that, it looks cool... not planning to use it for navigating, and after a drink or two, not really caring about the detailing, so just the overall look is what was important to me. It has an old style compass rose on the bottom shelf, and the ring near the equator has all the signs of the zodiac. The artwork inside the top of the globe when opened is cool. The northern and southern hemisphere peices stay movable, so you can position it how you want so your side of the Earth of choice is in view no matter where you set... Read more
6 of 6 people found the following review helpful review of the bar globe, January 10, 2011 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Sixteenth-Century Italian Replica Globe Bar I purchased this bar globe for my husband for christmas. He had been fascinated by one he sees in our attorneys office for years, but I always thought the price would have been way out of my league, so I never thought twice about purchasing one for him. I found many on Amazon from many different companies, so I wasn't sure which manufacturer to go with. I'm so pleased I chose Toscano Design company. When he opened the box, it seemed like there might be a challenge building it, however, once its all laid out, it couldn't be easier! It took 7 minutes and no cuss words. :) The bar is fascinating while the lid is closed, and when its opened up its even more elaborate and exquisite. There is plenty of room for stemware, shot glasses, cordial glasses, whatever your desire, as well as 3 bottles in the center part of the globe. Underneath the globe there is also plenty of more storage, I'd say enough room for 9 more bottles. It even fits our large decanter, which is now displayed in... Read more
