Not a $300 chair., December 12, 2009 By Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Alera Nico Mid-Back Swivel/Tilt Office Chair, Black (Kitchen) I bought this chair for just over $130. Amazon.com boasted a $170 discount from the $300 retail price so I thought it was a good deal. But this is not a $300 chair.
During assembly I found 3 defects. 1.) One of the screw holes had a blockage halfway in the cylinder. My electric screw driver couldn't get through it, and I had to use a manual one and brute force to push through the blockage so the screw could seat itself as intended, otherwise it would have been sticking out. That itself took about 30 minutes. 2.) Right out of the bag, the back part of the chair had threads and fabric hanging out from the bottom part that I had to push back inside. Which isn't really a big deal since it was going to be mashed against the lower part of the chair and hidden after assembly. 3.) One of the arm pieces had a washer missing from a screw hole, and this WAS a big deal. The washer was supposed to be mounted inside (like the other 7 holes). I'm a big guy and dainty, narrow chairs simply don't cut it. This chair was a great choice.
The material is not leather, but is a "leather-like" material. The material seems very durable and has a nice feel to it. In the old days we might have called it naughahide, but I don't know if that term is used anymore. Regardless, the materials of the chair won't disappoint. You get the feel of leather without the price.
The chair has a very sturdy construction. Steel frame guarantees a secure feel to the chair. Very solid, even for us big guys!
But is it comfortable? Yes it is. I spend several hours per day sitting in the chair and comfort is a major issue. This chair is generously padded in all the right places, including the arm rests. I don't know if lumbar support is actually intended, but the lower back pad on my chair fits right into my lumbar region and gives much appreciated support... Read more

It came literally the day after I ordered it (paid for standard shipping so major ++) and only took about 30 minutes to put together and it came with all necessary parts/tools - as close to fool proof as advertised. The chair is very comfortable and allows your back to breathe without issue. You can control both the adjustable height of the chair as well as the tilt & give for the back which is quite nice. I am 6'1 205 lbs and do not have any issues with the height regardless of whether it is at its highest of lowest adjustment. I am very happy with this chair and recommend it to all that ask.
